Guatemalan FM Makes First Official Visit to Georgia

Sandra Erica Jovel Polanco, Foreign Minister of Guatemala paid the first official visit to Georgia on September 3-4. Yesterday, she met with her Georgian counterpart, Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani, and pledged to deepen the two countries’ ties.

According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, Polanco and Zalkaliani spoke of a wide range of issues of bilateral agenda, including politics, trade, economy, culture and education.

The two ministers also discussed the situation in Georgia’s occupied of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions and overall security environment in the wider neighbourhood.

Later the same day, the Guatemalan FM met with the Georgian Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani and the chair of parliamentary foreign relations committee Sofio Katsarava.

Davit Zalkaliani, Georgian FM and Sandra Erica Jovel Polanco, Guatemaan FM have previously met in New York within the framework of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly on September 27, 2018. Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Republic of Guatemala were established on April 27, 2010.
