PM Gakharia Speaks of Middle East, Says Peace Talks Have No Alternative

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia discussed, among other issues, the current situation in the Middle East at the government’s session on Thursday, noting that peace negotiations and active diplomacy have no alternative.

PM Gakharia said that any types of tensions represent “a huge problem” for the region, from both, security and economic points of view.

“The Georgian government has been in touch with international partners from the very beginning and has been following the developments closely,” Gakharia noted.

He also said that all respective government agencies working on security issues, as well as the Foreign Ministry are closely working with partners “to fully analyze the threats our country may face given the recent developments in the region.”

The Prime Minister also noted that the Foreign Ministry has been instructed to render assistance to Georgian citizens staying in the zone of tensions, through its representations, consulates and embassies.
