Abkhazia’s ‘Patient Zero’ Recovers from Coronavirus

Abkhazia’s “patient zero” – the first recorded case by Sokhumi authorities – has now recovered from a disease caused by the novel coronavirus,  Russian media has reported.

Moscow-backed Abkhazia registered the first case of the novel coronavirus on April 7. According to Abkhaz authorities first case was imported from Russia, as the infected patient arrived in Gagra, Georgia’s westernmost town, after having returned from a trip to Moscow. S/he was then admitted by the Gudauta Hospital and underwent treatment there.

Abkhazia reported first case of recovery from coronavirus on April 21. Authorities in Sokhumi now claim that there are no active COVID-19 cases left in the occupied region, as two patients out of all three registered cases were discharged from the Gudauta Hospital, while the third patient, a 95-year-old woman diagnosed with COVID-19 on April 11, passed away from the virus complications on April 26.
