12:30 GMT+4 – Land Borders Open, Indoor Food Facilities Allowed on Weekends Starting June 1
Georgia opens its land borders starting June 1. Visitors will have to present either proof of full vaccination and a negative PCR test result conducted in the last 72 hours, or two negative PCR test results, conducted 72 hours before and after entering. Food facilities will be allowed to serve customers indoors on weekends starting June 1 as well, as per the Inter-Agency Council’s decision.
Citizens and residents of Canada, Japan, Kuwait, China, South Korea, Moldova, and Oman are now allowed to enter Georgia.

The German Embassy in Tbilisi stated today about granting the medical facilities in Sokhumi and Gudauta, located in occupied Abkhazia, EUR 46,000-worth equipment to help fight against the COVID-19 virus. The equipment includes a generator, oxygen concentrators, UV lamps, pulse oximeters, rapid tests, protective masks, and disinfectants. “The virus is spreading across the world regardless of borders. 08:00 GMT+4 – Georgia Receives 43,000 More Doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford
A second batch of 43,000 more jabs of AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine was delivered to Georgia this morning via COVAX, the UN-backed COVID vaccine sharing scheme. According to NCDC Head Amiran Gamkrelidze the shots will be used as second doses for those already vaccinated with the British-Swedish vaccine. Registration for the second shots opened yesterday evening and will be administered starting from May 10.
The country began COVID vaccination on March 15 after 43,200 doses of the British-Swedish AstraZeneca vaccine arrived on March 13, while 29,250 doses of Pfizer/BioNTech followed on March 25 – both only available to medical personnel and citizens over 55. The Chinese-made Sinopharm vaccine is the only one to be administered in all age groups over 18 thus far.
Tbilisi also received a batch of 100,000 Sinovac (CoronaVac) COVID-19 vaccines from China as humanitarian aid recently on April 30, but the registration for Sinovac shots has not opened yet.

According to the Georgian health authorities, a total of 47,949 persons have received at least a single dose of coronavirus vaccine since Georgia initiated vaccine rollout on March 15. Meanwhile, 7,009 persons have been fully vaccinated.

Georgian authorities have confirmed 2,171 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the tally of the total confirmed cases to 315,913. Moscow-backed authorities in Abkhazia reported 49 new cases of COVID-19, taking the tally of the total confirmed cases in the region to 14,666. 10 more patients have recovered, bringing the number of recoveries to 13,660. With 222 COVID-related fatalities recorded since the onset of the virus, the number of active cases to date stands at 784.
17:40 – Sputnik V Vaccine Delivered to Tskhinvali Region, Abkhazia
Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali/South Ossetia regions on April 30 received their first batches of Russian-made Sputnik V (Gam-COVID-Vac) vaccine against the coronavirus. Kremlin-backed S. Ossetian authorities started administering the jabs today, while the process has not yet started in Abkhazia.

Based on the Georgian government’s latest decision, persons working in the tourism and hospitality sector, as well as public transport drivers and employees will be added as priority groups in the vaccination process against COVID-19.

Georgian authorities confirmed 1,147 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the tally of the total confirmed cases to 311,457. The number of recoveries rose by 690 to 291,457. The authorities reported 20 new fatalities, bringing the number of COVID-related deaths in the country (excluding occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions) to 4,130. The number of active cases to date stands at 15,844.
