Education Minister Mikheil Chkhenkeli announced that all public and private kindergartens, schools, vocational training centers, and universities will be allowed to hold in-person classes from October 4 onwards. There will be a nationwide mandate for children, teachers, and staff, to wear a mask, and parents unwilling to send their kids back to school will be able to opt for online teaching. Establishments, in cooperation with the Ministry, will be able to decide on the format of the classes on their own. The Minister also urged parents to vaccinate “to have a healthy environment” in children’s homes and said about 65% of school personnel are already jabbed.

13:40 GMT+4 — Municipal Transport to Resume from September 13
The Government of Georgia announced today that the public transport, including in the capital city of Tbilisi, will resume starting from September 13, Monday. The municipal transport was suspended first during August 14 – september 3 period and then later the ban was extended through September 12, as the COVID cases spiked. Intercity transportation has been operational throughout this period.
Also, the Government said the sports events will resume, albeit without spectators. All of sportsmen participants should be either vaccinated, or present PCR test performed in the past 72 hours or antigen test done in the past 24 hours for tournaments to be allowed, the Government noted.
Other COVID-related curbs remain in effect.
