President Proposed Former MIA Employee for the Justice Minister Vacancy

President Shevardnadze officially proposed Prosecutor’s Office old-timer Ronald Giligashvili on the position of Justice Minister. Giligashvili currently chairs the Parliamentary Committee of Procedural Issues..

The figure of Roland Giligashvili is commonly associated with the police and procuracy old-timers and cuts against the trend instituted by Saakashvili to introduce younger lawyers to the Ministry. Earlier it was also announced that current vice-minister of Internal Affairs would be Giligashvili’s deputy minister.

The CUG and parliamentary opposition supported the candidate, thus it seems legislative branch will approve Giligashvili.

Note: Justice Minister Mikheil Saakashvili left office on September 19 claiming that the reform of the government from within is impossible.
