Russian and Georgian Parliamentary Chairmen Discussed Peacekeepers Issue

Georgia does not demand immediate withdrawal of the CIS peacekeeping troops consisting of Russian soldiers from Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone, Russian news agency Interfax reports, quoting Chairman of Russian Duma Council Genadi Selezniov after the meeting with his Georgian counterpart Zurab Zhvania.

Despite the disagreements Russia and Georgia can cooperate to solve the problems, Zurab Zhvania stated today.

Parliamentary chairmen agreed to organize the meetings of the MPs of two countries every month to improve relations between the Georgian and Russian legislators.

On October 25, in his speech at the Russian Institute of Strategic Studies Zurab Zhvania stated that the Russian peacekeepers are ineffective in the conflict zone. Abkhazian conflict is the main problem in Georgian-Russian relations, Georgian Parliamentary Chairman announced.
