Foreign Ministry and President Have Different Opinions on Gudauta Base Withdrawal

(Tbilisi. November 9. Civil Georgia) – Foreign Affairs Ministry of Georgia declared mistrust to the note of Russian Foreign Ministry confirming that Russia has pulled out the military hardware from Gudauta military base.

The problem of Gudauta base liquidation will not be solved unless the international observers monitor the process of withdrawal, spokesman of Georgian MFA Kakha Sikharulidze stated on November 9.

Contrary to this statement, President Shevardnadze announced today that Russia frankly fulfilled its obligation under 1999 OSCE Istanbul Agreement and withdraw exceeding military hardware from Gudauta base.
