Georgia Unable to Defend Airspace Over Kodori, Abkhazia

(Tbilisi. November 17. Civil Georgia) – Candidate for Defense Minister’s post Davit Tevzadze stated that Georgia has no antiaircraft guns to defend Kodori gorge, the only territory in breakaway Republic of Abkhazia controlled by the Georgian government.

Antiaircraft guns, which are needed to down the warplanes violating Georgian airspace, are expensive, thus unavailable for Georgia, ex-Defense Minister stated.

In October unidentified warplanes violated Georgian airspace and bombed Kodori gorge for several times. Tbilisi officials accused Russian side of bombardments. Defense Minister Davit Tevzadze announced then that Georgia would down any warplane illegally crossing Georgian airspace.
