More Electricity Troubles

(Tbilisi. January 3. Civil Georgia) – The high-voltage power line Kavkasioni, used for supplying electricity from Russia to Georgia was damaged on January 2 causing blackouts in several districts of Tbilisi.

As the result of the accident electricity supply to the Georgian capital Tbilisi declined drastically. The reasons of the accident remain unknown.

Kavkasioni power line is vital for Georgia at the moment. Two power generating units were damaged in explosion at “AES-Mtkvari” power plant owned by the American company AES on December 22.

After the explosion Georgia’s national power-production capability was decimated. Power supply is almost entirely dependent on supply of electricity from Russia and Armenia.
