CIS Executive Secretary Visits Georgia

(Tbilisi. January 4. Civil Georgia) – Yuri Yarov, executive secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) visits Georgia on January 4.

Yuri Yarov plans to meet Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze and State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze.

It is anticipated that CIS executive secretary will discuss the issue of the Russian peacekeeping forces, deployed in the Georgia-Abkhazian conflict zone under the auspices of the CIS.

Russian peacekeepers’ mandate expired on December 31, 2001. From this date Russian peacekeeping forces lack the legal status for carrying out their duties.
