Relatives of Abducted Monk Protest
(Tbilisi. January 5. Civil Georgia) – Relatives, friends and several monks are protesting in Akhmeta region, eastern Georgia, demanding the release of an abducted monk, who is detained in Pankisi gorge, eastern mountainous region of Georgia.
Relatives of the abducted monk say they know who the criminals are and have already informed police about them, but law enforces do nothing to capture kidnappers. Protesters demand drastic measures to be implemented by the police.
Two hermit monks and two novices were kidnapped in early November 2001. Three of them were released later while one still remains detained. Kidnappers demand ransom of one million USD for releasing the monk.
