Saakashvili Says Taliban Defeat May Spurr Drug Trafficking in Georgia

(Tbilisi. January 8. Civil Georgia) – Mikheil Saakashvili, former Jusice Minister and leader of radical reformer faction in the parliement told the Georgian Times, that the defeat of Taliban will mean activisation of drug trafficking in Georgia.

Based on undisclosed sources, Saakashvili argues that the trafficking route running through Georgia and, notably, the Pankisi gorge was starting in the areas previously controlled by the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan.

Success of the Uzbek and Tajik ethinc groups in Afghanistan will liven the trafficking route through the Central Asian states populated by their ethnic kin, former Justice Minister argues. “The US and their allies may not want to hear this,” added Saakashvili.
