Mercenaries Try to Infiltrate from Georgia – Russian Chief Border Guard Says
(Tbilisi, January 23, Civil Georgia) – Mercenaries and Chechen fighters try to penetrate in Russia from Georgia, Chief of Russian Border Guard Service Col-Gen Kostantin Totski stated in Armenia on January 23, Armenian news agency Mediamax reports.
Russia constantly accuses Georgia of harboring Chechen fighters in criminal-ridden Pankisi gorge, eastern mountainous region of Georgia.
Georgia denies accusations. “There are no fighters from Chechnya or any other nationalities in Pankisi gorge,” Internal Affairs Minister Koba Narchemashvili stated n January 16.
Since January 15 Georgian law enforcement agencies pass special operation in Pankisi to crackdown criminals.
