Narchemashvili does not Rule Out Being Chechen Fighters in Pankisi
(Tbilisi, January 30, Civil Georgia) – Georgian Internal Affairs Minister Koba Narchemashvili stated on January 30, that persons fighting in Chechnya against the Russian troops might be among refugees from Chechnya living in Pankisi gorge.
“But It does not mean that the Georgian government is harboring Chechen fighters,” Narchemashvili stated.
Russia constantly accuses Georgian authorities in harboring militants from Chechnya in criminal-ridden Pankisi gorge.
Approximately 7,000 refugees are living in Pankisi gorge, eastern mountainous region of Georgia, at the moment together with the local Kists [Georgian citizens of Chechen origin].
