Georgia Admits Presence of Chechen Fighters in Pankisi

(Tbilisi, January 31, Civil Georgia) – Georgia does not deny that there are persons fighting against the Russian troops among Chechen refugees in Pankisi gorge, Secretary of Georgian National Security Council Nugzar Sajaia stated on January 30, after the meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Rushailo.

“President ordered to cooperate with the Russian law enforcement agencies to normalize situation in Pankisi gorge”, Sajaia stated.

“Law enforcers of two states have a collaboration and will pass joint measures”, Russian Secretary of National Security Council Vladimir Rushailo announced after the meeting.

Chiefs of security councils did not specify what kind of joint measures would be passed to normalize situation in criminal-ridden Pankisi gorge.
