Georgian-Abkhazian Sides Fail to Agree on Joint Monitoring of Kodori

(Tbilisi, March 1, Civil Georgia) – On February 28 Georgian and Abkhazian sides could not agree on the joint monitoring of the Kodori gorge, the only territory in breakaway Abkhazia controlled by the Georgian government.

Georgian Special Affairs Minister Malkhaz Kakabadze stated after the talks that Georgian side did not receive appropriate security guarantees for the Georgian population of the gorge from the Abkhazians.

Sides failed to agree on the issue in mid-February as well. Minister Kakabadze stated that talks will be continued.
