New Security Council Secretary Appointed
(Tbilisi, March 7, Civil Georgia) – Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze signed a decree appointing Georgian ambassador to the United States Tedo Japaridze on the post of the National Security Council on March 6.
Eduard Shevardnadze stated at the government’s meeting that Tedo Japaridze is involved in US-Georgian military cooperation and his choice was determined with this fact.
The post of the National Security Council Secretary was vacant since February 25, when the former Secretary Nugzar Sajaia committed suicide.
56-years-old Tedo Japaridze is Georgia’s envoy to the United States, Mexico and Canada since 1994.
In 1992-1994 Tedo Japaridze was a national security adviser to the Head of the State [Eduard Shevardnadze].
