Russia Demands Extradition of Chechen Warlord from Georgia

(Tbilisi, March 26, Civil Georgia) – Russian Foreign Ministry handed over protest note to the Georgian embassy in Moscow demanding extradition of Chechen field commander Ruslan Gelaev on March 25.

“Russian citizen Ruslan Gelaev, who is in Georgia at the moment, is wanted in Russia for forming illegal armed groups in Chechnya,” the protest note says.

Russian General Prosecutor’s Office demands Gelaev’s extradition since last November.

Georgian State Security Ministry does not rule out that Gelaev might be in Georgia, but has no exact information where he is at the moment.
