PACE Discusses Situation of Refugees, IDPs in Caucasus

(Tbilisi, June 27, Civil Georgia) – Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) discusses situation of refugees and displaced persons in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia on June 27.

Ruth-Gaby Vermot-Mangold of Committee on Migration, Refugees and Demography makes the report on the issue.

“Many of them [refugees, IDPs] live in refugee camps in dramatic conditions, in full dependence on insufficient humanitarian assistance with no prospects for the future,” the report states.

According to the report the conflicts, in the beginning perceived as short-term, remain unsettled until today. “In this context, the Assembly welcomes the efforts of Georgia to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in Abkhazia”.
