State Minister Criticizes Government for Budgetary Shortfall

(Tbilisi, July 10, Civil Georgia) – At the government’s meeting on July 10 State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze reported to the government implementation of the budget in the first half of 2002.

The State Minister criticized the government members for the budgetary shortfall. He said that it is inadmissible when only one person is responsible for the budgetary fulfillment.

Head of the Budgetary Office of the Parliament Roman Gotsiridze reported on July 9 that the budgetary shortfall consisted 63 million Lari (approximately USD 28 million) in the first six months of the 2002.

Avtandil Jorbenadze said that the main reason of the budgetary shortfall is high level of corruption in the governmental structures.

President Shevardnadze stated that the discussion of the details of reasons of budgetary shortfall would take place at the extended government’s meeting by the end of July.
