Parliamentary Commission Says Three MPs Violated Constitution

(Tbilisi, November 18, Civil Georgia) -Parliamentary Investigative Commission declared today that the participation of three MPs in the election of Chairman of the Tbilisi City Council was illegal.

The Commission claims that MPs Elene Tevdoradze, Giorgi Baramidze and Eldar Shengelaia of the United Democrats opposition faction violated Georgian Constitution, when they participated in the election of City Council ? Sakrebulo?s Chairman on November 4.
 
?A Member of Parliament may not occupy any position in a state office or carry out entrepreneurial activities. In the event of a violation of the preceding clause the individual will cease to be a Member of Parliament,? article 53 of the Georgian Constitution says.

The Parliament is to discuss the decision of the Parliamentary Commission. Votes of 79 MPs are necessary to cease three MPs? membership in the Parliament.
