United Democrats Ready to Relinquish MP Immunity
(Tbilisi, May 22, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Members of the United Democrats faction Giorgi Baramidze and Mikheil Machavariani declared readiness to cancel their immunities and bear responsibility for the May 5 incident, when the Socialist’s leader and vice-speaker vakhtang Rcheulishvili was injured in a quarrel in the Parliament.
On May 21 Prosecutor-General of Georgia Nugzar Gabrichidze named those MPs who have participated in the clash. Gabrichidze said that these were Giorgi Baramidze and Zaza Sherezadashvili, members of the Democrats’ faction. He said that within the week the Prosecutor-General’s Office will request the Parliament to lift immunity of these MPs.
