Tbilisi Calls on Moscow to Coordinate Spending in S. Ossetia

Georgia has demanded that the financial aid allocated by Russia on rehabilitation of the South Ossetian conflict zone be spent in coordination with Georgia, Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Merab Antadze said after talks with a Russian governmental delegation in Tbilisi on April 24.

Other donors pledged seven million Euro on implementing various rehabilitation projects in South Ossetia at a Brussels conference last June. Russia allocated three million Euro, but insisted it would spend it at its own discretion.

?Actually, it is unclear for us, where and how these funds were spent,? Merab Antadze told reporters.

Russian prime ministerial aide Gennady Bukaev, who leads the Russian delegation, said that the Russian funds were spent on rehabilitation of social facilities. The delegation plans to visit Tskhinvali on April 25.

?We want to show interest in those facilities, which are under construction in the conflict zone with Russian assistance,? Bukaev told reporters, adding that last year seven facilities had been reconstructed in the region.
