Georgia Launches Increase of Troops in Iraq
?A small group? of Georgian servicemen was sent to Kuwait on July 16. The soldiers will join their comrades in Iraq on July 23, the Georgian Ministry of Defense said.
This initial move is part of a larger Georgian troop deployment in Iraq, which will see the number of Georgian soldiers rise from the current 850 to 2,000. In per capita terms, it will make Georgia the second biggest contributor, after the United States, to operations in Iraq.
The remaining additional Georgian troops will be sent to Kuwait and then onto Iraq, between July 20 and July 22.
