New State Minister Ready for JCC

Davit Bakradze, the new state minister for conflict resolution issues, reaffirmed on July 23 his willingness to participate in a session of the quadripartite Joint Control Commission (JCC) over South Ossetia.

The Georgian side had earlier proposed a JCC plenary session in Tbilisi for early August. Russia?s chief negotiator, Yuri Popov, suggested on July 20 to first hold an informal meeting on August 1-3 to agree the agenda of the plenary session.

The state ministry in a statement on July 23 agreed to the Russian suggestion.

The agenda, it said, should include demilitarisation, the demobilization of illegal armed groups and the dismantling of military fortifications in the conflict zone.
