Security Council Discusses PM’s Visit to Tskhinvali Region
The National Security Council of Georgia discussed, late on August 3, the possible visit of Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania to the Tskhinvali region on August 6.
“We hope, Zhvania will arrive in Tskhinvali [capital of breakaway South Ossetia] late this week and hold talks with de facto President Eduard Kokoev,” President Saakashvili said at a news briefing on August 3.
Security Minister Vano Merabishvili, who also attended the session, said the Georgian side expects Eduard Kokoev to quickly respond to this proposal.
“Zhvania’s visit to Tskhinvali confirms that the Georgian authorities support only a peaceful solution for the conflict and spare no efforts for this purpose,” Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said on August 3.
