Five Persons Detained on Arms Possession Charges Released on Bail
Tbilisi City Court ruled on February 4 to release five persons, among them four Ukrainian and one Georgian citizens, who were apprehended in Tbilisi along with two other Ukrainian nationals on charges of illegal arms possession, after each of them post GEL 2 000 bail.
The detainees who were released from courtroom, and have no right to leave the country.
The Ministry of Interior said that all of them were apprehended on December 2, 2018 and two handguns, one handmade rifle and “other types of weaponry” were seized from their hotel rooms.
Investigation was launched under article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia – illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and explosive devices by a group of people. The detainees might face imprisonment from eight to twelve years. The next hearing will be held on March 12.
