Armenian FM Meets Georgian PM, Counterpart in Tbilisi
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan is visiting today Tbilisi, where he met with Georgian prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and his counterpart David Zalkaliani.
The Armenian diplomat and Prime Minister Garibashvili discussed bilateral relations and the regional security environment.
PM Garibashvili’s press service said the two officials touched upon Georgia’s Peaceful Neighborhood Initiative, envisaging Tbilisi to facilitate dialogue and confidence-building in South Caucasus with the participation of Armenia, Azerbaijan, the U.S. and the EU.
The Georgian PM stressed that Tbilisi supports peaceful cooperation in the South Caucasus and stands ready to contribute to the regional dialogue, according to the report.
Meanwhile, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said that FM Mirzoyan informed the Georgian PM about Azerbaijan’s reported advance into the Farrukh/Parukh village of Nagorno-Karabakh on March 24.
During the discussion, the top Armenian diplomat also stressed that further development of ties with Tbilisi is of strategic importance for Yerevan.
Earlier on March 29, Minister Mirzoyan and FM Zalkaliani, who also serves as Georgia’s deputy Prime Minister, discussed bilateral relations, trade, economy, and regional issues, per the Georgian Foreign Ministry’s press release.
The Georgian top diplomat briefed the Armenian Minister about the humanitarian and security environment in Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry stated that FM Mirzoyan on his part spoke about recent developments in Nagorno-Karabakh and Yerevan’s position on the potential launch of peace talks with Baku with OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship mediation.
“The Foreign Minister of Armenia also briefed his counterpart on the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey without preconditions,” the statement highlighted.
